The Conserve the Light energy conservation kits funded by OPA, were manufactured and delivered by AM Conservation Group, Inc. to almost all of the 25,000 on-reserve homes in over 134 communities across Ontario.
The Conserve the Light concept was developed to reduce electricity consumption in First Nation communities as part of the Provincial Energy Efficiency & Conservation Measures for Aboriginal Communities (EEMAC) initiative. Fulfillment posed some logistical challenges in remote communities where electricity conservation is critical and power is often provided by diesel generators that require fuel delivered by aircraft. Each Conserve the Light energy conservation kit included compact florescent light (CFL) bulbs, faucet aerators, pipe wraps, fridge and freezer thermometers, a low flow shower head, an outdoor timer for Christmas lights and other devices that will result in immediate reductions in energy use. Also included was a copy of “Your Energy Conservation Kit Product Guide” – an explanatory guide on how to properly use the items the kit contains printed in four languages. As one involved concluded, "The kits are resulting in energy savings, but more importantly, there is now a much higher level of activity and interest in energy conservation in First Nations communities. We need to revitalize our conservation culture, a culture that is based on our traditional teachings." - Mr Charles Fox.

The electric cooperatives of South Carolina wanted everyone to "Do the Light Switch." Each residential co-op member received, by mail, two compact fluorescent light bulbs, valuable information on CFLs, and a container that can be used as a coin bank for members to 'bank' the savings they'll realize by switching to compact fluorescent light bulbs. In early May, approximately 1.2 million compact fluorescent light bulbs began arriving at electric cooperative-served homes in South Carolina. Co-op members received their bulbs courtesy of their local electric cooperative.
"By distributing energy saving CFLs to our members, we're making them part of the solution to challenges such as climate change and rising energy prices," said Mike Couick, CEO of The Electric Cooperatives of South Carolina Inc., the State Association of Electric Cooperatives. "Together, we can make a difference." The compact fluorescent bulb bank mailers were produced and personalized with 22 individual co-op member logos and delivered to the respective members' homes on a turn-key basis. The CFL bank mailer is a product of AM Conservation Group, Inc. and has been approved by the US Postal Service for CFL mailings.
