The energy saving compact fluorescent bulb packaged in our Bank Mailer gives members a place to "bank their savings" from the use of CFLs. There is also some useful literature in the package that emphasizes the savings that can be realized by using CFLs.
First Electric Cooperative proves its commitment to energy efficiency by mailing a compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulb to each of its 61,500 residential members free of charge. The 18-watt CFL bulb produces the same amount of light as a 75-watt incandescent bulb, lasts 10 times longer and uses 75 percent less electricity, saving about 550 kilowatt-hours (kWh) in its lifetime, which translates to about $58 in savings. "When our members receive the free CFL and install just the one bulb in their home, the savings from the 61,500 CFLs will amount to about 35 million kWh or $3.5 million in energy costs over the life of the bulbs," said Don Crabbe, President/CEO. "Our board of directors made the decision to set the pace for educating our members about energy efficiency through education and value-added programs and services. Helping our members save energy, and ultimately energy dollars, will improve the quality of life, which is a top priority for First Electric."
